While there are many great artists from California, I chose the Grateful Dead because the founding members are all from California, and like the license plates, they logged thousands of miles on the road as they toured the country.

I used 29 license plates to create this license plate guitar, as well as the Dead Head Lightning Skull logo from the Steal Your Face album. A dancing bear is on the head stock. A Michigan tag was used in the G to spell Grateful down the neck.
