A few years ago, I was commissioned by Bruno Mars’ tour company to create a tour gift for him. When it came time to pick an artist to represent Hawaii, he was my first choice. I used 32 license plates to create this colorful piece. The smile in the center hole, created with Michigan tags, represents his enthusiastic persona. My exhibit needed a little funk, which is why Uptown Funk, one of his most popular hits, is written across the body.
